Crescent College Completes Upgrade to DRM-X 5.0, Continuing to Protect ACCA and CA Online Courses

Crescent College, a professional accounting education institution in Pakistan, has completed its upgrade from DRM-X 4.0 to DRM-X 5.0. After using DRM-X 4.0 for many years, the college has adopted the next-generation DRM-X 5.0 platform to encrypt its online courses and learning materials and deliver ACCA and CA course content to thousands of paying students through the ZJGet secure browser.

About Crescent College

Crescent College is a professional accounting education institution in Pakistan that primarily offers ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) and CA (Chartered Accountancy through ICAP) programs through both classroom and online instruction. The college has built its own campus portal, bringing together admissions, dedicated ACCA and CA learning areas, a learning management system (LMS), student resources, and technical support. It currently serves thousands of paying online students and delivers recorded lectures, PDF course notes, and practice materials.

Crescent College sought to address in advance several content security risks commonly faced by online professional education providers:

  • Screen recording and live-streaming tools can capture recorded courses; once copied, the videos may be distributed online;
  • Shared or loaned student accounts can lead to lost course revenue;
  • Video courses, PDF notes, and practice materials are often distributed together, making it necessary to distinguish between free resources and paid, access-restricted content.

The DRM-X 5.0 Upgrade Solution

Common sources of revenue leakage in online professional education include unauthorized course recording, account resale, and multiple learners sharing the cost of a single account. When paid content and free materials are mixed together, access can be difficult to segment. Traditional video encryption tools may also be unable to integrate with an institution's own learning system, making license renewal and distribution cumbersome and inefficient as the student population grows.

As a longtime DRM-X 4.0 customer, Crescent College took part in testing and evaluating DRM-X 5.0 after its official release. Seeking stronger security and broader compatibility, the college gradually migrated its online courses to the new platform and completed a smooth upgrade. DRM-X 5.0 protects course content through video encryption, system-level screen recording prevention, display output restrictions, blocking of virtual machine and cloud desktop environments, and triple-watermark tracing. Together, encryption, access control, screen recording prevention, and watermarking substantially reduce the risks of unauthorized recording, distribution, and account sharing.

For system integration, DRM-X 5.0 connects to the college's in-house LMS through an XML Web Service interface. After the LMS verifies each student's enrollment status, course purchase rights, and access period, the DRM-X 5.0 interface updates, issues, and remotely manages the corresponding licenses. Course authorization, rights updates, and the revocation of expired access all take place without manual intervention. The college's existing teaching workflow remains unchanged, while course permissions for thousands of students are managed automatically.

About the DRM-X 5.0 Platform

DRM-X 5.0 is Haihaisoft's next-generation DRM platform. Built on more than 20 years of digital rights management experience, it uses a new security architecture to protect digital assets including video, audio, PDF documents, images, and web content. Its key capabilities include:

  • Industry-standard AES encryption combined with license obfuscation and anti-debugging technology to resist cracking;
  • Smart screen recording prevention, triple watermark tracking, display output restrictions, and hardware-bound licenses;
  • Local file encryption, so original files do not need to be uploaded to the service provider's servers, plus detection and protection against high-risk environments such as virtual machines and cloud desktops;
  • Online playback and local offline learning across Windows, macOS, Android, and the ZJGet secure browser.
